The 300 Watt Quiet Cut Spindle from Inventables works great with the Shapeoko desktop CNC. It is a great upgrade for many other DIY CNC router designs as well. Building the Shapeoko is pretty easy. There’s no cutting or drilling, just a huge pile of screws and nuts that you assemble. It took me two evenings to put everything together, although I already had the experience of building the first one which probably made it easier.

I will start things off. I looking to use UGS with my SP3 and was wondering if anyone has had experases using carbides probe with UGS. Shapeoko 3 Looks more rigid than X Carve, at the same time more expansive - with more powerful spindle ~$1300. Not customizable when ordering, shipping announced for July 2015 so its at least 2 months from now. pro's vs X Carve - looks more sturdy, especially rails, not sure about the gantry and other hardware.
